BACB® Ongoing Supervision Standards & Audit Compliance
The Behavior Analyst Certification Board strictly enforces ongoing supervision requirements to protect consumer welfare and maintain clinical fidelity. According to the BACB RBT Handbook, an RBT must receive a minimum of 5% of their total ABA service delivery hours in qualified supervision each calendar month.
Supervision must involve at least two face-to-face, synchronous contacts per month. At least one of these contacts must be individual (one-on-one between supervisor and RBT), while the second contact may occur in a small group setting (maximum 10 RBTs). Failure to maintain documentation may result in credential suspension or termination.
Writing Objective SOAP Session Notes in ABA
State how the client presented at the start of session and document any setting events reported by caregivers (e.g. sleep duration, illness, changes in medication).
Record exact measurable data points: behavior frequency, duration, rate, skill acquisition trial counts, prompt levels, and chain steps completed.
Analyze client responsiveness to interventions, effectiveness of reinforcers, and trends in behavioral data.
Outline target goals for the subsequent session, recommended modifications for supervisor review, and maintenance probes.
